“How did I resist the breakdown, and what shifted when I surrendered?”
Breakdowns terrify us. We are taught to avoid them, patch them up, push through, and keep the appearance of “fine” at all costs. So, when the cracks start showing, we fight like hell. We cling tighter to the job that is killing us, double down in the relationship that is draining us, pile on more distractions to drown out the truth. Resistance feels like control — but really, it is self-betrayal.
Here is the slap: resisting the breakdown just drags out the pain.
The more you fight to hold together what is already crumbling, the more exhausted, bitter, and disconnected you become. The breakdown does not stop because you resist — it just breaks you in the process. And then comes the moment when you cannot fight anymore. You surrender. Not because it is easy, but because your Spirit knows you cannot carry the weight of the lie another second.
And what happens when you finally surrender? Space, breath, relief, and clarity. The rubble is still there, but suddenly, you see the gift hidden inside the collapse. You realize the job, the relationship, the identity that fell apart was not meant to carry you forward. You discover a freedom you could not even imagine when you were busy duct-taping the illusion back together.
The shift comes the moment you stop gripping what is false and open your hands to what is real. Breakdown becomes breakthrough. Surrender becomes liberation.
More Food For Thought:
Where in my life have I resisted the breakdown, and what did that resistance cost me?
What shifted the moment I stopped fighting and surrendered to the truth?
How can I remember that surrender is not defeat — it is freedom?
Breakdowns do not destroy you. Resisting them does. Surrender is where the shift begins.
