“I would rather be alone in truth than adored in a lie.”
There is a deep human longing to be loved, to be chosen, to be adored. And in chasing that, it is tempting to shape-shift into whatever wins applause. Smile wider, stay agreeable. Say what they want to hear. Build a version of yourself that looks perfect on the outside — even if it is suffocating on the inside.
But here is the slap: if what people love is the mask, they do not love you.
Being adored in a lie means you can never relax. You have to keep performing, keep pretending, keep feeding the image. And the whole time, your Spirit knows — they are not actually seeing me. They are seeing the act. That kind of “love” is fragile. One crack of truth and the whole thing crumbles.
Being alone in truth might feel brutal at first. Silence replaces applause. Distance replaces validation. But that solitude is clean. It is honest. It is fertile ground for relationships and opportunities that actually see and honor the real you. And when connection grows there, it lasts — because it is rooted in truth, not performance.
So, the choice is this: do you want to be adored for a lie you cannot sustain, or do you want to stand in truth even if it costs you temporary company? One keeps you trapped. The other sets you free.
More Food For Thought:
Where in my life am I still being adored for a version of me that is not real?
What fear keeps me performing the lie instead of standing in my truth?
What freedom could open if I chose truth — even if it meant standing alone for a while?
False love chains you. Real truth frees you — even if it is lonely at first.
