Pain Is Not the Enemy—Avoidance Is

Pain has a terrible reputation. We are taught to avoid it, numb it, distract ourselves from it, or reframe it away as quickly as possible. But pain itself is not the problem.

Avoidance is.

In Spiritual Bitch Slap, I emphasize that pain is information. It is communication. It is your inner guidance system telling you that something needs attention.

Pain shows up when truth has been ignored.
It lingers when alignment has been compromised.
It intensifies when we refuse to listen.

Unfelt pain does not disappear. It relocates. It shows up as anxiety, depression, chronic tension, illness, or emotional reactions that feel disproportionate to the moment. We wonder why we are overreacting, when in reality we are under-listening.

Healing does not begin when pain stops. It begins when pain is acknowledged.

Sitting with discomfort does not mean wallowing. It means allowing yourself to feel what is already there without judgment or urgency. When pain is met with presence instead of resistance, it changes. It softens. It releases.

Avoidance keeps pain stuck. Awareness allows it to move.

We often try to think our way out of pain, but pain does not live in the intellect. It lives in the body. In the nervous system. In the unconscious. And the only way through it is honesty and compassion.

Pain is not here to punish you.
It is here to guide you.

If you are ready to stop running from discomfort and start listening to what it is telling you, Spiritual Bitch Slap offers a grounded, compassionate path forward.
